V NĚJAKÉ JAZYKOVÉ PORADNĚ JSEM OBJEVILA TOTO:
"Zero: Singular or Plural
Liesse writes, „I have a friend from Belgium who is learning English. He heard my voicemail say, ‚You have no new messages,‘ and he wants to know why we use the plural form of ‚messages.‘ He thinks we should just say, ‚message.‘“
It's an interesting question because zero (and, similarly, no) isn't really singular or pluralit's nothingand different languages handle it differently. In English, zero and no are followed by a plural noun: You have no new messages.
In French, zero and no are followed by a singular noun, which is probably why Liesse's friend believes her voicemail should say, „You have no new message“–French is spoken in Belgium."
V KONKRÉTNÍM PŘÍPADĚ „MESSAGES“ JE PLURAL MOŽNÁ LOGIČTĚJŠÍ,
ALE
ŽE BY „NO + PLURAL“ BYLO VŠEOBECNÉ PRAVIDLO,JAK SE VÝŠE TVRDÍ, TO SE
MI NEZDÁ.
DÍKY ZA ODPOVĚĎ.
