I‘ve chosen the topic of religious rights of children, because I think it is a very omitted but important topic. This problem is dealed with in the article 30 of the Convention on the Rights of the Child. The legal systems of individual countries and international treaties accept the right of parents to control their children in choosing and practicing religion appropriately to their age. Religious parents lead their children to religion and don‘t ask them if they want to be part of the religion. An example is christening of newborns. Child at this age can’t express themselves freely. I think it would be wise to keep a child to religion, but christening or other commitment should be done at a later age when they are able to say whether they want it themselves. But I understand that my opinion is unconnected with the traditions of the religion. In my opinion, the positive side of religion is that it gives the child the moral code, for example that murder is a sin. But I also think that these moral rules can be explained differently. I think it is right to separate religion from school, because, especially in the Czech Republic, there isn’t only one religion. In schools there are children from many different religions. For this reason, it would have to have religion symbols of all the religions in the world, which is impossible, because the religions are incompatible. Kids can be evil, and when they are guided by religious fanatics, it can lead to violence or murders in schools. The child has the right to freely choose a religion and other people should respect their choice.
