Help for English

zkrátit o hodinu

Zdravím všechny,

můj student v rámci tréninku psaní napsal toto:

Since I got married I´ve shortened my sleeping about 1 hour in a day.

Což za mě není správně, chybí tam nějaká předložka, ale sám nevím jaká. Napadá mě maximálně FOR, ale zní mi to divně…

“Since I got married I´ve shortened my sleeping by about 1 hour a day.” This is grammatically correct and acceptable, but “shorten” and “sleeping” don't seem to collocate well when “sleeping” is functioning as a noun. “Shorten your sleeping time/hours” (when “sleeping” is fiunctioning as an adjective) is ok though. (Note: not “in a day” in the intended sense here)

  • Since I got married, I´ve cut my sleeping by about an hour a/each/every/per day.
  • Since I got married, I´ve cut my sleep by about an hour a/each/every/per day.
  • Since I got married, I´ve cut down on my sleeping by about an hour a/each/every/per day.
  • Since I got married, I´ve cut down on my sleep by about an hour a/each/every/per day.
  • Since I got married, I've cut down my sleeping by about an hour a/each/every/per day.
  • Since I got married, I've cut my sleeping down by about an hour a/each/every/per day.
  • Since I got married, I've cut down my sleep by about an hour a/each/every/per day.
  • Since I got married, I've cut my sleep down by about an hour a/each/every/per day.
  • Since I got married, I sleep about an hour less a/each/every day.
  • Since I got married, I've reduced my sleep/sleeping by about an hour a/each/every/per day.
  • Since I got married, I've taken to sleeping about an hour less a/each/every/per day.
  • Since I got married, I've been sleeping about an hour less a/each/every/per day.
  • Since I got married, I sleep about an hour less a/each/every/per day.
