What - clause

Prosím Vás, je možné pro zdůraznění akce ve what- clauses použít i jiné slovesa. Například: hope:

What I hoped was to sell your pictures.

Děkuji

Ano, věta „what I hoped was to sell your pictures“ je v pořádku. Takzvaná cleft sentence vazba platí teoreticky u všech sloves podobného typu (tedy sloveso + to + infinitiv):

  • What I wanted was to get my money back, but they only offered me a credit note.
  • What I didn't like was to come home to a cold flat, so I turned on the radiators before I left for work.
  • What I intended was to catch a later train, but in the end I decided to get a taxi instead.
  • What I forgot was to bring my reading glasses so I couldn't read my book on the train.
  • What I agreed was to pay the workmen half now, and the other half when they finished the job.
  • What I offered was to put my friend up (= ubytovat) until the decorating work at her flat was completed.

Prosím Vás a zde by šly použít gerundia? Např.: What I wanted was getting my money back. What I didn't like was coming home to a cold flat.

Není mi jasné, po jakých slovesech gerundia použít jdou a kde nejdou. Je na to nějaké pravidlo? Moc děkuji

Want to do something. Want doing something.

  • What I wanted was to get my money back.
  • What I wanted was getting my money back

Like to do something. Like doing something.

  • What I didn't like was to come home to a cold flat.
  • What I didn't like was coming home to a cold flat.

Gerundium v angličtině (HFE)

Jak se gerundium používá? (…)

  1. za některými slovesy

U některých sloves se používá gerundium, u jiných zase infinitiv.

Aha, jasné, už to chápu. Moc děkuji.
