Dear Mr./Mrs.,

since September of this year, I have been a student of psychology at the University of Ostrava. In the following lines I will explain the reasons of my motivation to travel for studying to another country.

From partner universities I have chosen the National University of Ireland, Maynooth for the winter semester 2020. Although, studying at universities in neighboring countries can be enriching too the advantage of a more distant country is its immediate practical experience of the English language, which I can't experience in Poland or Slovakia so intensive. Ireland's distance also provides more pronounced change in the environment and necessity of independence, which are another important aspects due to with I can test my own skills.

Also, I was intrigued by this university because of interesting school courses and the workshops of the counseling center, which are dedicated to the self-development, mindfulness or relaxation techniques.

I am aware that if one day I want to do a profession in the chosen field responsibly and well it is necessary to focus not only on knowledge, but also on the personal development. Experience abroad of this kind is an opportunity and then an experience that affects all levels – study, professional and personal.

Because of my own experiences I know how much energy and different perspectives provides distance, foreign environment, language and culture. Only when we leave all our certainty and sets out on an uncertain path, we become more sensitive and open. In the “unknown waters” we can gain the most valuable experience precisely because the firm ground under our feet is miles away and if we don't want to drown oneself, we must swim. And in spite of all the doubts I have this uncertainty is much more acceptable to me than idle waiting for “some next time”.

I am aware that if I want to work professionally and responsibly in my chosen field in the future it is necessary to focus not only on knowledge, but also on my personal development.
