Byla by prosím následující věta gramaticky správně? Jde mi hlavně o to, zda lze nahradit slovo picture anaforou one.

Věta “I recall the frequent picture of my mother taking care of me and also the one of my grandmother* je gramaticky správně, ale bez kontextu "frequent picture” – “častý” obraz zní divně. Není (mně) totiž jasné, v jakém slova smyslu může být obraz “častý”.

Zajímalo by mě, zda by šlo použít následující větu s anaforou one: My mother recalls the frequent of Mr. Lincoln going down the street and I recall the one of Mr. Lincoln talking to her son.

Dan určitě odpoví:), jen bych ráda řekla, že mi v té vaší verzi chybí to pokračování, které je v tom textu...... Že si vybavuje maminka nějaký “výjev”, ke kterému ovšem patří ten popis, který následuje......

Aha, tak ten “obraz” není obrázek pověšený na zdi nebo fotka v albu. Jde o to, že matka si casto všímala (“všímávala”), jak Mr Lincoln jde po ulici … [I think that's how you'd render it in Czech, my native language is English, not Czech .] Byla to taková podívaná, taková její představa, vzpomínka. [Add: yes, výjev – evaoslik said it better than me.]

V tomto případě “the one” není přijatelné. Matka měla svou představu tohoto pána, mluvčí měl pak svou vlastní jinou představu, a nemůžeme říct “the one” protože jde o “first mention”.

“One” bez členu je ale v pořádku. My mother recalls the frequent picture of Mr. Lincoln going down the street and I recall the one of Mr. Lincoln talking to her son.

Ale porád je ta věta stylisticky kostrbatá kvůli tomu “picture”. Doporučuji: My mother recalls the frequent picture of Mr. Lincoln going down the street and I remember frequently seeing Mr. Lincoln talking to her son.

První věta “I recall the frequent picture of my mother taking care of me …" zní ale divně: všímal jsem si, jak o mně matka často pečovala … . Jesti dobře rozumím: I have fond memories of my mother taking such good care of me.
