Dobrý den 🙂 „Uvařil“ jsem se na jedné problematice…

„Dokud budu na sobě mít tuhle bundu, nezmoknu.“ (Jsme venku, prší, mám ji teď na sobě, říkám to kamarádovi)

• As long as I wear this jacket, I won't get rained on.

Mám potíže s porozuměním jaký čas mohu dát po as long as v případě, že mluvím o ději, který svým způsobem začal v minulosti (bundu jsem si před nějakou dobou na sebe již oblékl), situace se teď děje (mám ji na sobě), ale je v tom zamotaná i budoucnost (dokud ji na sobě budu mít)…

• As long as I'm wearing this jacket, I won't get rained on.

Byla by tato varianta lepší? Já osobně bych použil tu s přítomným prostým časem po as long as – i díky právě tomu, že se zde nezaměřuji na přítomnost, ale budoucnost. Jde o to na co se chci zaměřit časově? Mohlo by něco změnit kdybych použil as long as ve smyslu pokud a nikoliv dokud?

Podobně mám problém u vět:

• As long as I don't play (not playing these days, because I am injured), I have the time to do other things.

„Dokud nebudu hrát/Dokud nehraji, mám čas i na ostatní věci.“ Preferoval bych tuto variantu s přítomným prostým.

• As long as I'm not playing (not playing these days, because I am injured), I have the time to do other things.

Šla by však i tato s průběhovým časem? Jaký by byl rozíl?

I would avoid „as long as“ in those sentences where there's no temporal „tak dlouho, jak“ meaning, as in „you can leave the phone ringing as long as you like, they won't answer it“.

While the non-temporal „as long as“ version is not grammatically incorrect, it's clumsy, not idiomatic and we wouldn't use the „as long as“ construction", because the go-to construction here is „if“ or „provided (that)“. The same applies to the non-temporal „as long as I don't play“ / „as long as I'm not playing“: they're confusing and unidiomatic.

• As long as I wear this jacket, I won't get rained on. ☹️
• If I wear this jacket, I won't get wet. 🙂
• Provided I wear this jacket, I won't get wet. 🙂

1. If it's raining, I'll still get rained on. Wearing a jacket won't stop the rain from falling on me.
