Speaking of series, we have been taught that series is for example The Simpsons and that serials are atrocities like Ordinace v Růžové zahradě.

The point was that series should allegedly consist of parts that don't depend on each other, whereas serials would include something like one story divided into the whole serial, so all the episodes must be seen if you don't want to loose track.

Is that true?

Prida: No, they are all ‚series‘.
SERIAL is something like ‚pásmo‘ in Czech. But I know that some dictionaries define SERIES and SERIALS the way you say. But it's just not how the words are really used.

I just spend too much time watching TV series and reading about them. Never have I heard a TV series referred to as a ‚serial‘. And it doesn't matter whether it's independent episodes or whether it's just a long story divided into episodes. It's still a series.

One Tree Hill, Season 6, 8/10

Friends, All seasons, 10/10

When I don't know what to do, I put the disc of any season into my portable DVD player and have some fun I could watch Friends all over again and still enjoy it.

Yeah, I agree. Friends can be watched over and over again.

Secret Life of the American Teenager, Season 1, 3/10

Marek: I'm fascinated you finished it. I gave it a try, thought it would be enjoyable, but gave up after a couple of episodes.

I just finished because I was sorry I'd paid 20 dollars for it. The plot is tacky, the acting terrible. The only person who could act a little was Amy, I guess. The others reminded me of Czech actors in Czech soaps. Well, I'm not going to buy season 2, that's for sure.

Yeah, sometimes I do take risks buying shows I've never heard of… but I often find pretty cool things. Like FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS – an excellent show!
