But this is advanced stuff, and this usage of the putative “should have”
is formal. Getting back to your example, unless we really need
to retain the formal style, we would usually translate it as “remarkable that
his business prospered” because we are speaking after the fact, and
the business did, indeed, prosper. What was remarkable was the
idea that it might/could/should prosper, not the
fact that it did.
