Psal jsem “esej” o online nakupování a v posledním odstavci jsem použil “as it always goes” místo “as it always is”. Lze nějak popsat rozdíl mezi těmito výrazy? Samozřejmě vím co “as it always is” znamená, ale u druhé vazby už váhám jak bych to přeložil a proč se to sem vlastně nehodí.

Nějak mi nesedí, že by se to dalo použít tak, že ta slovesa v těch dvou větách neladí.
Dám příklady, nechce se mi vymýšlet, mám převzato..

Dala jsem to záměrně do dvou skupin – v jedné jde o sloveso být, ve druhé jde o jakékoli jiné sloveso(tudíž v té větě se slovem “as” se dá sloveso pomocné dle toho jaký čas užíváte. Časy se můžou lišit, jak je vidět v obou skupinách.

Vy to máte nakombinované. Jednoduše nahradit “does” to ve vašem případě nejde, protože ta první věta se míní jako něco obecného, v ní nejde jen o to nakupování..

Nešla by vymyslet nějaká jiná fráze? Momentálně mě nic skvělého nenapadá.

Pokud je to vaše použití jen něco co neznám, tak se hádejte:), ale mě to praštilo do oka…

Ano, používá se to tak, jak to napsala evaoslik. Dvě adverbiální vazby vedle sebe hned na začátku (“all in all, as it always …”) nezní dobře.

Yes, that word order is fine too in that particular construction, but not in the other versions where I've introduced a separate clause with a dash (“… its pros and cons – that's the way it goes.”)

Len by som sa chcela spýtať, či môže byť výraz Pros and cons použitý v eseji ? Nie je to neformálny výraz nevhodný do eseje ?

You make a fair point, but in English-speaking countries we tend to be less hung up about what is “too casual”, partly because there are no clear boundaries, so it's very much a matter of personal opinion and contextual perception.

Pros and cons (advantages and disadvantages, pluses and minuses, upsides and downsides, fors and againsts) is fine in any context – academic, professional, essay, theses, etc. It has the advantage, of course, that it's shorter and therefore less of a mouthful than the alternatives.

The relevant Ngram, which searches usage in books, finds pros and cons featuring prominently as a close runner-up to advantages and disadvantages.
